A DISCIPLINARY hearing for the former head of a police standards unit has been delayed until at least the new year.

Superintendent Bev Gill is facing allegations that she failed to act on information made against a colleague about his sexual impropriety with young officers before ‘tipping’ him off about the investigation.

The allegations involved Detective Inspector Simon Hurwood, who resigned from Cleveland Police, after his behaviour towards more than 20 women came to light.

And on another occasion she is said to have become embroiled in an investigation into another officer who lied about how he suffered facial injuries after being assaulted when it was revealed he was having an affair.

Disciplinary panel chairwoman, Shamaila Qureshi, heard how several other ongoing investigations and employment tribunals, involving senior staff and officers at the force, could impact on the evidence used throughout the disciplinary hearing.

Stephen Morley, representing Cleveland Police, called for the hearing to be delayed for a further three months to enable all evidence to be collected.

Hugh Davies, representing Supt Gill, said his client was unable to retire from the force while the case was hanging over her. He said: "The whole situation is pregnant with delay."

The case will be listed for legal argument in the new year.
