PLANS have been revealed for a party at one of Darlington's most popular new venues.

Darlington Market opened earlier this year to huge fanfare, with visitors keen to try out its new Street Food Experience food and drink stalls.

Six food outlets opened in part of the market, which has been redesigned to include seating, a bar and a performance area.

The bosses at the refurbished town centre venue thanked the public for their "brilliant" support since reopening saying its new concept has been "well received" by the public.

The work, which was delayed because of the pandemic, is part of a multi-million pound investment aimed at boosting footfall to the market and town centre.

The food selection includes pizza and burgers, as well as Hungarian and Thai cuisine, Spud Gun, which makes loaded fries and the Yorkie Wrap Company, which specialises in wraps made from Yorkshire puddings.

And market traders, some who have traded in the facility for decades, hope the redevelopment will help attract new customers.

Now, the market has said it will throw a party including live music and all-day family entertainment on Saturday, October 9.

A statement from the market read: "To celebrate the launch of our Street Food Experience and phase one of our big plans for Darlington Market, we’re having a PARTY!

"On Saturday 9th October we’re having live music and family entertainment all day at the market. Performer announcements to follow in the lead up to the big day.

"The support our market has had in the last few weeks especially, has been brilliant. The new experience within the market building that includes street food from across the globe, a bar and weekly live entertainment has been well received and we continue to develop our concept.

"So, keep your eyes peeled for more announcements and keep Saturday 9th October free in your diary."

David Shaul, digital media strategist for Market Asset Management (MAM), previously praised the venue's refurbishment for its new ideas. He said: “It’s a fresh idea and a fresh concept.

“I think it’s great for us and great for the town. If we can attract more people into the town everyone wins."
