A COMMUNITY-run cinema has had to delay its re-opening by a week after a projector failed on its initial planned opening day.

The Ritz cinema in Thirsk was due to reopen last Friday after undergoing extensive refurbishment during its Covid closure.

Sadly a last minute disaster struck on the verge of the cinema's opening night.

Volunteer Marc Davies said: "We have had a failure on our projector - all our equipment has been maintained and serviced during closure but sadly today (Friday) of all days it has failed us.

"To ease any further customer confusion we have taken the difficult decision to delay our opening until next Friday, October 1."

"We will be showing the same film 'The Last Bus' and will continue with the rest of our program and of course we will have 'Bond' at the end of the month.

"On behalf of the volunteers I extend a heartfelt apology for any inconvenience this has caused."
