A MAN has been arrested following an alleged assault on a teenage boy.

The 16-year-old victim was allegedly assaulted in Guisborough, on Tuesday.

Police investigating the incident subsequently arrested a 34-year-old man and, following questioning, he was released under investigation.

Officers have urged people not to speculate about the incident on social media as it could affect any future court proceedings in the case.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said: "We are aware of widespread interest in an alleged incident in which it was reported that a 16-year-old boy had suffered an injury to his ear in an unprovoked attack in Guisborough on Tuesday, September 14.

"A 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault yesterday (Friday, September 17) and he was interviewed and released under investigation while inquiries continue.

"This is an on-going investigation and we would ask people not to speculate on social media as this could affect any future legal process.

"We appreciate your co-operation and understanding."
