POLICE were called to a crash on the A1(M) in County Durham on Wednesday night. 

Heavy traffic was reported on the A1(M) Southbound between Bowburn and Bradbury at around 8:15pm with large queues backing up due to the incident.

Durham police confirmed two vehicles were involved, but nobody suffered serious injuries. 

A spokeswoman for Durham Constabulary said: "Police were called at 8.15pm yesterday following reports of a two-vehicle collision on the southbound carriageway of the A1(M) between junction 60 and 61.

"Nobody is thought to have been seriously injured in the incident."
