Composing in California

The Northern Echo:

“I wouldn't be where I am now if I had not studied at Bishop Auckland College.”

Five years ago, Jordan Caygill completed his BA (Hons) in Music at Sunderland University, a ‘top-up’ year following completion of his Level 5 HND Music at Bishop Auckland College.

Today he works as a film trailer composer/music producer for Position Music in Los Angeles, an exciting role he secured during a visit to the studio in California in 2019.

His commissions include creating the trailer music for Hollywood film Terminator: Dark Fate starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, The Outsider - a series on US subscription channel HBO based on the 2018 Stephen King novel, and promotional campaigns for America’s Got Talent.

Looking back at his time at Bishop Auckland College, he added: “Choosing BAC was in my eyes one of the monumental decisions of my life as I wouldn't be where I am now if I had not studied there.

“The commitment of the course lecturers and their dedication to making students successful was something that really impressed me. At BAC I was surrounded by a professional team of people that brought out the best in me.”

From Negombo to nursing

The Northern Echo:

“I really enjoyed my time at Bishop Auckland College and would highly recommend joining”

Pumie Senadhira started her educational journey 5,500 miles away at St. Nicholas' International College in Negombo, Sri Lanka, before emigrating to the UK.

But after completing her Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health & Social Care at BAC in 2019 she was accepted on to the BSc in Nursing (Child) degree course at the University of Bradford.  Now in her second year, she has been enjoying work placements at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Children's Ward at Bradford Royal Infirmary, Children's Outpatients at Airedale General Hospital.

“I really enjoyed my time at BAC and would highly recommend joining as it has truly given me some of the best memories and helped me become the individual I am today, an aspiring student nurse eagerly waiting to qualify with my degree and proceed into a job role I've always wanted to be in.”

From apprentice to self employed

The Northern Echo:

“I always wanted to train as a hairdresser.  The college was great for me, I completed my apprenticeship and am now working self-employed”.

Gabrielle Donohue, from Bishop Auckland, left school with good GCSE grades and progressed to sixth form, but having always dreamed of becoming a professional hairdresser, she applied to the College’s hairdressing apprenticeship programme and never looked back.

“I would definitely recommend Bishop Auckland College, it was great for me and I am now pursuing what I always wanted to be”.
