A MAN suffered serious facial injuries after he was assaulted in Darlington.

Police are appealing for information into the incident which occurred between 1-3pm near John Street and Albert Road on Saturday.

It is believed the victim was walking along the five arches path when he was approached from behind and kicked and punched by a number of men.

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: "Police investigating a serious assault are appealing for information.

"The victim who attended hospital sustained serious facial injuries which required treatment."
