POLICE searching for missing man Carl Gent say they have found a man's body.

The 39-year-old was reported missing on Friday, after last being seen leaving an address in South Shields.

Northumbria Police issued an appeal yesterday morning for help from the public to help trace him, saying it was "completely out of character" for him to go missing.

But last night they confirmed that a body had been found.

Whilst formal identification is yet to take place, they believe the body is that of Carl Gent.

A spokesperson said: "This is an extremely sad conclusion to our investigation and our specialist officers are currently supporting Carl’s family during this incredibly difficult time and our thoughts are with them.

"We want to thank everyone who helped in our search by sharing our appeals and searching the area.

"We will continue to carry out enquiries to establish the circumstances around the death but at this stage we do not believe there to be any third party involvement.

"Once formal identification has been completed a report will be prepared for the coroner."
