A NORTH Yorkshire college saw a range of vintage cars from around the world led by a member of the Royal family.

His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent led a selection of vintage cars through the 2,200-acre estate at Ampleforth College last week.

The rally was headed up by Prince Michael himself in his 1957 classic blue Bently as the cars made their way through Ampleforth Valley from Gilling East.

Drivers from across the world including Mexico, USA, Germany, Switzerland and the UK joined the rally for a visit to the college.

Headteacher Robin Dyer, and Dean, Fr Ambrose gave the drivers a brief tour of the school library as part of the visit.

Guests were able to learn about the history of the school, including the intricate Robert Thompson Mouseman furniture, which is found throughout the College.

The furniture is made locally and is famed fro its trademark carved mice, signifying "industry in quiet places."

The library also features individual family coats of arms above each of the carrells.

Guests were able to enjoy a glass of award-winning freshly pressed Ampleforth Abbey Apple Juice which was harvested just the week before from the orchard at Ampleforth Abbey which has been making drinks since the early 2000s

The rally preceded the "Concours of Elegance" event that took place at Hampton Court Palace, where motoring enthusiast Prince Michael is a patron.
