HUMAN remains have been found in a wooded area of Newcastle.
A police cordon has been erected in Fossway, Walker, following the grim discovery on Thursday night.
It is believed the remains found are skeletal.
A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: “At about 7pm on Thursday, we received a report that adult human remains had been found in a wooded area in Fossway, Walker.
“We are currently in the process of identifying the individual and at this stage are treating their death as unexplained.
“Officers remain at the scene at this time.”
