A WOMAN who admitted her second domestic assault in three years is to be assessed for the risk she poses of further outbursts of violence.

Deborah Greenland, who received a community order including 20 activity days working with the Probation Service after a bottle attack on her husband in 2018, was back before Durham Crown Court following a further incident, earlier this year.

She was accused of attempted wounding with intent relating to a kitchen knife attack on her husband, on April 23, which resulted in him suffering a number of injuries.

Greenland denied the charge at a plea hearing in May and a trial was due to take place in the week beginning September 13.

But, appearing via video link from Low Newton Prison, on the outskirts of Durham, she admitted a new alternative count of assault causing actual bodily harm.

The plea was considered “acceptable” to the Crown, and so Judge James Adkin adjourned the hearing and asked the Probation Service to prepare a background report on the defendant which he said should assess, “the problems at home and what risk she might present in future”.

The 51-year-old defendant, of Linden Grove, Spennymoor, who has been in custody for 19 weeks since the incident, will remain behind bars pending the sentencing hearing, on September 13.
