THIS is the moment the impressive Disney Magic arrived in the North East for the first time this year.

The spectacular ship, which can carry around 2,700 passengers and almost 1,000 crew, was spotted as it sailed up the River Tyne on Friday morning.

Docking at around 6.30am at the Port of Tyne, near North Shields, the ship was pictured as crew members were poised ready to disembark passengers.

According to Disney's website, three-day cruises from Newcastle for the rest of the September period can cost up to £2,600 per person.

The 83,000 tonne ship is set to depart at around 8pm this evening, before returning for its next cruise from Newcastle on Monday, September 6.

Kate O’Hara, Commercial Director at the Port of Tyne said: “It is an absolute pleasure to have the Disney Magic back at the Port of Tyne and to see so many passengers enjoying the experience of cruising from North Shields again.

"Following a difficult year in 2020, we have enjoyed a very successful cruise season so far, and we look forward to that continuing with the upcoming calls from all the cruise lines.

"Cruise has a significant impact on our local economy and tourism industry and we are delighted to see it returning to growth.”

Earlier this year, locals and visitors were left impressed as the P&O Azura remained docked in the Port of Tyne for several months.
