A MOUNTAIN rescue team had its 50th call out of the year after responding to reports of a woman who was injured by falling off a horse.

The woman had fallen about three miles north of Rievaulx Abbey in North Yorkshire on Saturday morning.

Cleveland Mountain Rescue was called by Yorkshire Ambulance Service to a report of a woman who was potentially unconscious.

Two Team Land Rovers and a number of volunteers were dispatched to the area but as the first of them arrived the female casualty was just about to be loaded into the ambulance, which had managed to get relatively close to the scene.

She was then transported to hospital for further checks and treatment for her potential injuries.

A mountain rescue spokesperson said: "We wish her well in her recovery."

So far this year the team has responded to a third more call-outs than at this point in 2019 and 2020.
