A MOTORCYCLIST is in a critical condition in hospital after a crash involving a van on Saturday.

A Northumbria Police received a report shortly before 4.20pm on Saturday of a motorcycle that had collided with a black van on the B6318 Military Road near Heddon on the Wall.

Officers from Northumbria Police’s Motor Patrols department attended the scene alongside emergency services, and the 59-year-old motorcyclist was taken to hospital where he remains in a life-threatening condition.

The driver of the van was uninjured.

Sergeant Russell Surrey from the Force’s Motor patrols department said: “Our investigation is ongoing and we are gathering information to build up a picture of how the collision occurred.

"If you were travelling on the B6318 Military Road at 4.20pm this afternoon and saw a black Peugeot panel van and a Triumph motorcycle please get in touch.

“We are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or may have dash cam footage to get in touch.” Anyone with information, or dashcam footage is asked to contact 101, or use the Tell us Something page on our website, quoting log NP-20210828-0785.
