COUNTY Durham swimmer Lyndon Longhorne makes his Paralympic debut in Tokyo 2020 in the early hours of tomorrow.

The 25-year-old, originally from Crook, County Durham, and now living in Blaydon, had meningitis as a nine-month-old and septicaemia led to amputations of his right leg above the knee, his left leg below the knee, his right hand and the fingertips on his left.

His late grandfather introduced to him pool swimming at the age of one, and in 2011 at the age of fifteen, Lyndon was competing at his first national championships.

The Derwentside SC swimmer now boasts eight British Para-Swimming long course records after a series of fast swims in 2021 - those performances ultimately secured his nomination for a first international appearance for Great Britain at this summers Tokyo Paralympics.

Whilst Tokyo 2020 will be Lyndon’s debut Paralympic appearance, he holds a connection to a previous Games having carried the Olympic torch during the relay for London 2012.

The Paralympic Games are being covered by Channel 4, here's when you can watch him competing for Team GB.
