GREEN-FINGERED grannies will proudly show their produce today at an open event on the plot they lovingly tend.

The group of “very mature ladies”, as they call themselves, have been running Trimdon Community Garden at the Swainby Road allotments for nearly 20 years.

It offers a chance to show those who have been locked in throughout the pandemic of the benefits of gardening for general mental health, but is also a precursor to events starting next month in conjunction with the local primary school when they will be passing on some of their skills to the next generation.

Members of the public are invited to visit the site, between 1.30 and 3.30pm, to see what they can participate in, or just try the cakes made from some of the produce.
