THE opening date of the region’s third Amazon warehouse has been revealed as the retailer still has a number of jobs up for grabs.

Amazon has confirmed that its newest warehouse on the Follingsby Max industrial estate in Gateshead will open on Monday, September 6.

More than 1,300 permanent jobs are set to be created at the Fulfilment Centre, known as ‘NCL1,' after several months under construction.

It comes almost a year after Amazon opened its warehouse in Bowburn, near Durham - and almost eighteen months since it opened its first site in the region in Darlington.

Part of the site has already become operational with its new delivery station, which has been built next to the Gateshead Fulfilment Centre officially opening last month with the creation of dozens of jobs.

The Northern Echo previously revealed that the retailer would be moving into the enormous site as it was confirmed recruitment for the new roles would begin in July.

'We are excited'

Richard Thompson, Amazon Gateshead General Manager, said: “We are excited to be opening our third fulfilment centre in the North East of England creating more than 1,300 new permanent roles in Gateshead.
