AN INVESTIGATION is underway after a woman was injured by a piece of wood thrown from a multi-storey car park in Darlington.

Police say the woman was standing outside Wilko, on East Street, at around 3pm yesterday (August 1) when the wood was thrown from the car park above, striking her collarbone.

She was taken to hospital for treatment and is now recovering at home.

A spokesperson for Durham Police said: "This was understandably incredibly distressing for the woman, and it is only by good fortune that she did not sustain more serious injuries.

"Officers would urge those responsible to do the right thing and hand themselves in at a police station.

"They would also like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident."

Anyone with information is asked to email Sergeant James Woodcock at james.woodcock@durham.police.uk quoting crime reference number CRI00348769 if you can help.
