HOSPITALS throughout the region have experienced a stark increase in coronavirus patients.

New figures show three NHS trust’s have all reported increases in the number of Covid-19 patients occupying beds.

County Durham and Darlington Trust was caring for 62 coronavirus patients in hospital as of Tuesday.

NHS England data shows the number of people being treated in hospital for Covid-19 by 8am on July 27 was up from 59 on the same day the previous week.

The number of beds occupied by people who tested positive for Covid-19 more than quadrupled in the last four weeks – 28 days ago, there were 23.

The figures also show that 110 new Covid patients were admitted to hospital in County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust in the week to July 25. However, this was down from 125 in the previous seven days.

In the North Tees and Hartlepool Trust, staff were caring for 59 coronavirus patients in the same time period.

The number of people being treated in hospital for Covid-19 by 8am on July 27 was up from 32 on the same day the previous week, according to NHS England data.
There were three beds occupied by Covid-19 patients four weeks ago in the trust.

The figures also show that 86 new Covid patients were admitted to hospital in North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust in the week to July 25, and up from 51 in the previous seven days.

The Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys Trust was caring for five coronavirus patients in hospital as of Tuesday, an increase from two the previous week.
There were no beds occupied by Covid-19 patients four weeks ago at the trust.

The number of Covid-19 patients hospitalised nationally more than trebled in the last four weeks, while the number on mechanical ventilators almost trebled, increasing by 185 per cent.

Across England there were 5,163 people in hospital with Covid as of July 27, with 738 of them in mechanical ventilation beds.
