A CHILD critically injured in a collision involving a car on a residential estate has died in hospital.

Police confirmed the accident victim, who has not been identified, died from injuries suffered in the collision at Ingleby Barwick, Stockton, shortly before 1pm, yesterday.

The Cleveland force said today: “Police can confirm that a child has sadly died following a report of a collision involving a vehicle and a child on Wellbrook Close, in Ingleby Barwick, at 12.55pm on Friday, July 23.

“Ambulance service colleagues attended the scene and the child was taken to hospital.

“Our thoughts remain with the family of the child at this extremely distressing time and they are being supported by officers.

“Inquiries are ongoing in relation to the collision."

Emergency service crews, including the Great North Air Ambulance, attended the scene en-masse after reports of the collision in the Beckfields area of Ingleby Barwick.

A police cordon was mounted while inquiries took place at the scene.

The injured child was taken to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough, where the death was confirmed today.
