OFSTED, or the Office for Standards in Education, inspects and rates all state schools across England to judge the quality of education pupils are receiving.
According to the latest ratings, 31 schools in County Durham have been rated as 'requires improvement' or worse by Ofsted.
Here is a list of all the schools and pre-schools that have been rated 'inadequate' or 'requiring improvement' in County Durham
CONSETT
Castleside Primary School
In June 2018, an inspection of the school resulted in a rating of 'Requires Improvement'.
Inspectors said that leaders’ and governors’ actions have not secured consistently good teaching, learning or assessment across key stages or subjects.
Consett Academy
In March 2020, an inspection of the school resulted in a rating of 'Requires Improvement'.
Despite this, inspectors noted behaviour and attitudes. personal development and sixth-form provision was good.
Ofsted said in recent years, pupils have experienced a variable quality of education. Their progress in some areas of the curriculum has been weak.
Our Lady and St Joseph's Roman Catholic Voluntary Aided Primary School
In May 2019, an inspection of the school resulted in a rating of 'Requires Improvement'.
Inspectors said leaders have not ensured that the quality of teaching, learning and assessment is consistently strong.
Standards attained by pupils at the end of key stage 2 have declined over time.

BISHOP AUCKLAND
Bishop Auckland College
In November 2018, an inspection of the school resulted in a rating of 'Requires Improvement'.
Inspectors said leaders are aware of most of the key weaknesses found during the inspection.
However, they said staff have underestimated the impact of some of these weaknesses in their self-assessment, for example the low achievement on apprenticeship programmes.
Bishop Barrington School
In November 2017, an inspection of the school resulted in a rating of 'Requires Improvement'.
Inspectors said the progress Year 11 pupils made from their starting points by the time they left the school in 2015, 2016 and 2017 was not good enough.
It reflected underachievement by some groups of pupils overall and in key subjects such as English and mathematics, especially for disadvantaged pupils.
NEWTON AYCLIFFE
Greenfield Community College, Newton Aycliffe/Shildon
In September 2019, an inspection resulted in a rating of 'Requires Improvement'.
Woodham Burn Community Primary School
In April 2018, an inspection of the school resulted in a rating of 'Requires Improvement'.
The report said leaders have not acted swiftly enough to address weaknesses in teaching, learning and assessment.
As a result, the quality of teaching across the school is inconsistent.
Stephenson Way Academy and Nursery School
In December 2018, an inspection of the school resulted in a rating of 'Requires Improvement'.
Inspectors said teaching over time has not been precise enough to enable all pupils to get off to a strong start.
Horndale Infants' School
In Feburary 2019, an inspection of the school resulted in a rating of 'Requires Improvement'.
The report said over time, teachers have not planned learning to effectively meet the needs of pupils.
As a result, lower attaining pupils sometimes struggle with the work set and higher attainers complete work that does not fully deepen their learning.
CHILTON
Windlestone School, Chilton
In November 2019, an inspection resulted in a rating of 'Inadequate'.
DURHAM
New Brancepeth Primary School
In April 2019, an inspection of the school resulted in a rating of 'Requires Improvement'.
Ofsted said the quality of teaching, learning and assessment is variable across a range of subjects and this results in pupils making inconsistent progress.
However, inspectors said support and development are improving the quality of teaching quickly.
This is particularly evident in reading and mathematics.
Bearpark Primary School
In January 2021, an inspection of the school resulted in a rating of 'Requires Improvement'.
Inspectors said some pupils do not attend school regularly enough. This means that they are missing opportunities to build their learning in a sustained manner.
Belmont CofE (Controlled) Primary School
In December 2017, an inspection of the school resulted in a rating of 'Requires Improvement'.
The report says the quality of teaching varies between year groups and this contributes to unevenness in pupils’ current progress, particularly at lower key stage 2.
Durham Community Business College for Technology and Enterprise
In October 2018, a visit to the school resulted in a rating of 'Requires Improvement'.
Langley Park Primary School
In May 2019, an inspection of the school resulted in a rating of 'Requires Improvement'.
The report stated that the quality of teaching, learning and assessment varies across the school.
Some teachers do not plan to meet pupils’ needs from their different starting points.
Durham Gilesgate Primary School
In June 2019, a visit to the school resulted in a rating of 'Requires Improvement'.
Fishburn Primary School
In March 2019, an inspection of the school resulted in a rating of 'Requires Improvement'.
Inspectors said the quality of teaching, learning and assessment is variable.
Framwellgate School
In May 2018, a visit to the school resulted in a rating of 'Requires Improvement'.
FERRYHILL
Broom Cottages Primary & Nursery School, Ferryhill
In October 2018, a visit to the school resulted in a rating of 'Requires Improvement'.
Ferryhill Station Primary School
In January 2019, an inspection of the school resulted in a rating of 'Requires Improvement'.
Although leaders have recently secured significant improvements to the quality of teaching, it is not consistently good.
CHESTER-LE-STREET
Chester-Le-Street CofE (Controlled) Primary School
In December 2017, an inspection of the school resulted in a rating of 'Requires Improvement'.
Inspectors said leaders have not secured good attendance for disadvantaged pupils.
Too many disadvantaged pupils are regularly absent from school.
STANLEY
Croft Community School, Stanley
In December 2017, a visit to the school resulted in a rating of 'Requires Improvement'.
North Durham Academy
In Octoer 2018, an inspection of the school resulted in a rating of 'Requires Improvement'.
Ofsted said despite eradicating previously identified inadequate teaching, leaders’ efforts to improve the quality of teaching have not yet led to all groups of pupils achieving well over time.
St Mary's Roman Catholic Voluntary Aided Primary School
In December 2018, an inspection of the school resulted in a rating of 'Requires Improvement'.
The actions of leaders, including subject leaders and governors have not ensured consistency in the quality of teaching, learning and assessment across the key stages.
Stanley Children's Centre
During a children's centre improvment in May 2015, the school was rated as 'Requiring Improvement'.
PETERLE
Dene House Primary School
In June 2018, an inspection of the school resulted in a rating of 'Requires Improvement'.
Inspectors said although governors have a general understanding of the school’s weaknesses, they do not fully hold leaders to account for the impact of pupil premium funding on disadvantaged pupils’ outcomes.
Seascape Primary School
In November 2017, an inspection of the school resulted in a rating of 'Requires Improvement'.
Ofsted said results show that pupils’ progress rates in mathematics by the end of Year 6 were among the lowest nationally.
Yohden Primary School
In Janaury 2020, an inspection of the school resulted in a rating of 'Requires Improvement'.
SPENNYMOOR
North Park Primary School
In March 2019, an inspection of the school resulted in a rating of 'Requires Improvement'.
In recent years, the proportion of pupils reaching expected standards at the end of Year 6 in reading, writing and mathematics combined has declined and in 2018 was well below average.
The Meadows School
In June 2019, a visit to the school resulted in a rating of 'Requires Improvement'.
