HIGHWAYS England are set to close an exit slip road on a major road each day as part of measures to combat the Great Yorkshire Show.

The show is expected to bring in around 17,000 visitors and drivers are being advised to allow extra time for their journeys.

Highways England will close junction 47 northbound exit slip road on the A1 each day from 6am. There will also be traffic signals at the junction 47 southbound exit slip road and the measures will be reviewed each day.

Dave Skupski, Highways England regional operations manager, said: “This year, as we did in 2019, we will close the northbound exit slip road at junction 47. This will make it safer for drivers by preventing queueing on the hard shoulder and lane one. Anyone heading to the show should have left the A1(M) at Junction 46 but can travel to junction 48 and turn to use junction 47 if not.

“We advise drivers to follow the clearly signed routes to the show, using junction 46 for Wetherby when travelling north and junction 47 travelling south.

“Anyone travelling through that area over the four days is advised to allow extra time for their journey or to plan an alternative route if they aren’t attending the show.”
