Due to a geographical re-location, the current Youth Theatre Officer will be moving on this summer and the Theatre is looking for an experienced drama practitioner to take over at the helm.

Clare Allen, chief executive of The Georgian Theatre Royal in Richmond, said: “This is a really exciting opportunity for someone to join our friendly staff team and build upon the incredible track record of our vibrant Youth Theatre company."

The Georgian Youth Theatre introduces young people from 6 to 18 years old to all aspects of theatre and stagecraft, including acting, directing, devising and stage management.

Over the years, it has provided a launch pad for many students who have gone on to study drama or pursue successful theatre careers.

It has also won a number of prestigious drama awards, including ‘Best Youth Group’ and ‘Best Performance by an Actor’ at a regional round of the latest All England Theatre Festival for One-act Plays for its production of Dorian Gray.

The group took the same play up to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in the summer of 2019, the second year running that the Richmond students had taken part in this internationally renowned arts event.

Other activities have included participation in joint performance projects with students from Maryland in the USA, as well as community performances at Richmond Castle.

Ms Allen said: “The Youth Theatre has a long-standing reputation for excellence and to be based in the UK’s oldest working theatre with the opportunity to use its amazing stage for live performances is a huge bonus.

“We have an extremely talented and enthusiastic cohort of students across the age ranges who have worked incredibly hard during lockdown and achieved so much despite being unable to come together in the normal way.

"This proves that the possibilities for innovation and development within this exciting role are endless,” she added.
