A DOG owner was left devastated after his beloved pup was bitten by a venomous snake.

County Durham pet lover, Adam Lane, was walking his dog Enzo - an American Bulldog and Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross - when he was attacked by an adder last week.

Enzo unknowingly stood on the snake leading to the vicious attack.

The incident happened at Falling Foss, near Whitby, on June 28 and left the pup needing emergency treatment.

The 11-month-old puppy was screaming in pain as his leg swelled.

Mr Lane sought emergency treatment immediately as was told the bite could have killed his pooch.

Thankfully, the pup was given antivenom quickly and is now recovering well.

Mr Lane however, has been left in debt due to huge vet bills.

A fundraising appeal has been launched by his friend Chloe Stockdale to help cover the cost of the treatment.

On the fundraising page she said: "My friend has now been left with huge debt after paying the vet bill which has left a massive hole in his pocket and has been incredibly detrimental to his mental and emotional wellbeing, especially as Enzo is still not 100% and may have to seek further treatment yet.

"I have therefore taken it upon myself to create this go fund me to help support my friend as he is a single parent who lives independently. Any donation no matter how small will help and be massively appreciated."
