A NORTH EAST restaurant has been added to the highly-coveted Michelin guide after managing to impress a team of judges.

The Fern Dining Room & Bar at the Jesmond Dene House hotel, near Newcastle, has been added to the guide and given its own Michelin plate.

Headed by Danny Parker, who has worked at Michelin-star venues before, the restaurant was recognised for "outstanding cookery."

The owners of boutique-hotel, Jesmond Dene House used lockdown restrictions to carry out a refit in a bid to "freshen" up the venue ahead of reopening.

The Northern Echo:

As part of that, the Fern restaurant was given a refurbishment and a brand new name, and had hoped to attain a place in the guide.

But after doing just that, news that they had made into the guide came after what has been a troublesome year due to restrictions on the hospitality sector.

Mr Parker said: "We are beyond proud to have been awarded a Michelin plate, given for outstanding cooking and we will be hanging our plaque in pride of place outside our newly refurbished Fern Dining Room and Bar."

The Michelin guide, which features the very best of North East and North Yorkshire venues, has been a staple in the industry for more than a century.

Mr Parker added: “We would like to thank you to everyone that has visited or dined with us, we are so excited for the future of Fern Dining Room & Bar, and Jesmond Dene House and look forward to welcoming even more of you, once full lockdown restrictions are lifted.”
