MILLIONS of pounds are set to be injected into business support and job creation across Teesside, Darlington and Hartlepool.

An extra £10m has been added to Indigenous Growth Fund, which is aimed at promoting regeneration to support economic growth in each of the five key settlement areas in Tees Valley.

Introduced in 2019, the additional funding means that the five Tees Valley councils – Darlington, Middlesbrough, Stockton, Hartlepool and Redcar and Cleveland – have a war chest between them of £60m, which is aimed at boosting their local economies.

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said the Tees Valley Investment Plan, which outlines how £1.2billion will be spent on business growth, transport, culture, and job creation by 2029, had been updated to allocate additional funds.

A further £5m will also be provided to boost business support for small and medium sized businesses across the region.

The increased funding means £309m will be spent on initiatives to support business growth, aimed at delivering good-quality, well paid jobs.

Mr Houchen said: “Across Teesside, Darlington and Hartlepool we are doing a huge amount to transform lives and livelihoods like never before.

"The rebirth of the Teesworks site will create thousands of skilled, well paid jobs and make our region the number one place for clean energy and clean growth.

"And major government departments, including the Treasury, are relocating over 1,000 civil service jobs to Darlington meaning local people will be able to work at the heart of Government.”
