A RESTAURANT run by TV chef Gino D'Acampo has been forced to close after several members of staff are self-isolating.

The recently-opened restaurant, which is located at the INNSiDE Newcastle hotel on the quayside, temporarily closed this week.

It comes as confirmed Covid cases across the North East have increased in the past few weeks, with some schools being forced to shut due to positive tests.

Although the restaurant has closed, bosses said the decision was taken due to "operational challenges" from staff self-isolating, rather than any cases.

Fernando Gonzalez, General Manager of Gino D'Acampo Quayside, said: "We took the proactive decision to temporarily close the restaurant this week, further to members of the team having had to isolate, which presents a number of operational challenges.

“It’s unfortunate, but as always the welfare of our guests and our people is our number one priority.

“As we continue to navigate our way through the easing of lockdown, we are prepared for such events and are committed to operating safely and responsibly.  The support and understanding of guests is much appreciated."

Mr Gonzalez said it anticipated a reopening date of Friday, June 25.

The hotel operator, INNSiDE said its hotel division of the complex remained open as bedroom-only.

Calum Manekshaw, Hotel Resident Manager, added: “INNSiDE Newcastle remains open for bedroom guests.”
