A VULNERABLE man in a wheelchair was robbed of £90 in cash by two women.

Police say the incident, in Sunderland, left the wheelchair user 'incredibly shaken' and they are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

The alleged robbery happened at 12.30pm on Thursday at the bus stop outside The Point, Holmeside, Sunderland.

Police were contacted by a 44-year-old man who reported being approached by two women who forcibly took £90 in cash from him.

Officers launched an investigation and two women, aged 36 and 28, were soon located and arrested on suspicion of robbery and remain in custody at this time.

However, police believe there were a number of people who stopped to assist the victim in the aftermath, and witnesses to the incident who they are keen to speak with to help further the investigation.

A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: "This incident has left a vulnerable man understandably very distressed and shaken and we are determined to do all we can to find out exactly what has happened.

"Our CCTV enquiries have shown there were a number of people in the area at the time of the incident, some of who stopped to offer assistance and support and we are keen to speak with them about what they might have seen in order to further our investigation.

"Anyone with information is asked to get in touch and speak with officers. You can contact the Force using the Tell us Something page on our website, or by calling 101 using log number 453 170621."
