DARLINGTON Hippodrome has confirmed many of its shows will still go ahead - but one has been postponed due to the delaying of lockdown restrictions.

The venue launched its new season brochure last month and enjoyed a grand re-opening on May 17.

And after Boris Johnson's announcement on Monday that the June 21 lifting on restrictions will be delayed until July 19, the Hippodrome has provided an update on its programme.

Taking to social media earlier this week, the venue tweeted: "We're happy to confirm that despite yesterday's news regarding the delay to the roadmap - next week's much anticipated return of live theatre - COME BACK HOME - will be going ahead!"

Come Back Home, from June 24 to June 27, proposes to entertain crowds with 'a fusion of live performance and video projection with numbers from all the best-loved musicals such as Les Miserables, Miss Saigon, Dear Evan Hansen, The Book of Mormon, Six, The Bodyguard".

The Hippodrome also confirmed two other events will go ahead. The tweet added: "As will stand-up CARL HUTCHINSON and cult hit event SOLVE-ALONG-A-MURDER-SHE WROTE."

Comedian Hutchinson will visit Darlington on Friday, July 2.

SOLVE-ALONG-A-MURDER-SHE WROTE proposes an interactive screening of the classic Murder, She Wrote episode 'Broadway Malady'.

Described as 'a unique and hilarious night featuring games, prizes and audience participation and hosted by super-fan Tim Benzie' the event will take place on Monday, July 5.

However, one performance scheduled for next month has been postponed. Darlington Hippodrome said: "Unfortunately, the Friday 16 July performance of The Bon Jovi Experience has had to be rescheduled. Bookers will be contacted shortly."

Over the last year venue staff have worked hard to keep the theatre viable through the pandemic and to ensure its future success.

Arts Council England’s Cultural Recovery Fund has awarded grants totalling almost £1.5m, allowing the theatre to navigate what has been one of the most difficult periods in its 114-year history.
