CHILDREN have celebrated kindness and diversity with an explosion of colour at school.

Teachers and pupils at Knayton Church of England Academy Primary School, near Thirsk, held a colour run event on Tuesday as part of its current theme, 'a fair world'.

Headteacher Rachael Globe said: "Our learning mission this half term is 'a fair world'. It's so important to teach the children that in the past the world hasn't always been fair, and how they can spread kindness, fairness and equality in the future.

"We wanted to celebrate equality and diversity, and allow them to reflect on how they can make positive changes in the world. This fits in perfectly with our Christian ethos, as we are proud to be a church school.

"We held a colour run, and everyone made their own tee-shirts with slogans and pictures that meant something to them. The whole day was just fantastic - the atmosphere was really buzzy and empowering, and also quite emotional because we were so proud of the all of the children and how they embraced it."

Evangeline Morris, curriculum leader, said: "Our children are change-makers who are determined to transform the world. As a teacher, it is a pleasure to provide them with opportunities like this."

The pupils said they had an amazing day at the event which coincides with national Pride month.

Florence Illingsworth said: "I loved raising awareness all about equality and getting covered in colour!"

"I hope that in the future it will be a fairer world and that we have helped encourage that," said Olivia Groves.

"I loved it. It made me feel very lucky to go to school at Knayton!" said Malik Hassan.
