POLITICIANS from a North East town have pledged to put people before party politics.

The new leadership team of the Labour Party in Hartlepool has backed up their pledge to put party politics aside and written to Ben Houchen, Mayor of Tees Valley, to congratulate him on his re-election and to invite him to meet with the Labour Group of councillors in the town.

In their letter they state that: "Party politics cannot and must not get in the way of progress and we would like to offer our support in working together towards the common goal of a better, more prosperous future for our town."

Leader of the Labour Group, Councillor Brenda Harrison said: "Residents are absolutely sick and tired of the same old party politics and instead want all politicians to work together towards the common goal of improving our communities. Whatever our disagreements we need to put the people first. We need a more grown up type of politics in Hartlepool."
