A POLICE force trying to tackle issues involving sexual activity in a layby off the A19 is asking members of the public for their help.

The layby where "dogging" has been reported, a term used for sexual activity in public places while others watch, has been an ongoing issue, reports the York Press.

North Yorkshire Police has said they believe that the activity is taking place in the layby, at Skelton, near York, and have asked residents to help come up with a wider solution.

As part of a work to tackle the issues reported "dogging" causes, the force has asked those to work on a community-based problem solving plan.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Working with members of the local community, including the Parish Council, local council, landowners, businesses and many others, we will find long-term sustainable solutions to this issue."

As The Press reported last year, the layby on the A19 at Skelton, has become a hotspot the practice of dogging.

This is according to a parish councillor, who says there has been evidence of such activity, including condoms and lubricants, scattered in the road and nearby woodland.

Those who would like to be involved in the solution, are asked to get in touch by emailing alex.dobson@northyorkshire.police.uk.
