A FURTHER 86 cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in the North-East and North Yorkshire.

The Government said a further five people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Monday, bringing the UK total to 127,684.

Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies show there have been 152,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

The Government also said that, as of 9am on Monday, there had been a further 1,979 lab-confirmed cases in the UK.

It brings the total to 4,452,756.

Government data up to May 15 shows that of the 56,677,012 jabs given in the UK so far, 36,573,354 were first doses – a rise of 237,331 on the previous day.

A breakdown of the number of cases in the region since the pandemic began are: County Durham: 38,283 was 38,272; Darlington: 7,590 was 7,587; Gateshead: remains at 13,847; Hartlepool: 8,954 was 8,950; Middlesbrough: 12,632 was 12,627; Newcastle: 23,956 was 23,939; North Tyneside: 12,664 was 12,652; North Yorkshire: 30,185 was 30,173; Northumberland: 17,634 was 17,627; Redcar and Cleveland: 9,374 was 9,370; South Tyneside: 11,419 was 11,418; Stockton: 16,044 was 16,040; Sunderland: 22.188 was 22,184; York: 12,351 was 12,349 .
