A SEARCH for students with the X Factor saw singers, dancers and musicians take to the stage at a performing arts festival.

Sixteen acts took part in the annual house competition at The King's Academy, in Coulby Newham, with students from year seven voting for their favourite performer.

The winning act was 8 Smith Extravaganza, with a dancing and singing routine to I Want an Alien for Christmas.

Hannah Robinson came second, with her performance of Someone Like You, and singer Matthew Bingham was third.

New for this year's event was Indian drumming, by Indy Singh, Irish folk dancing, by Chloe Hawkins, and beat boxing, by Kallum Ghafor and Sam Ruddick.

Chris Drew, principal of The King's Academy, which is sponsored by Sir Peter Vardy's Emmanuel Schools Foundation, said: "The quality of the performances at this year's performing arts festival was by far the greatest that we've had.

The standard gets better and better, and shows how much talent, especially in music and singing, that there is among our young people."

In the house points tally for the competition, Greeks came out on top with 105.5 points.
