ONE of Britain's strongest women is to marry one of the world's strongest men in a clash of the titans.

Gemma Taylor, 24, of Bagby, near Thirsk, North Yorkshire, has scooped many weightlifting titles during her short career.

Among her honours is the crown of Britain's Strongest Woman, which she won in 2005 and last year.

For the past year, she has lived in Iceland, with her boyfriend, Benedikt Magnusson, one of the world's strongest men.

He holds the title of Iceland's strongest man and regularly takes part in competitions.

Miss Taylor and Mr Magnusson are finalising plans for their wedding in Iceland on Sunday.

Ron Taylor, Gemma's father, said: "We're going to the wedding, but they could have done it in the summer when it's warmer.

"The weather out there is a bit colder than here and we hope we miss the real depths of winter."

Miss Taylor is taking a year's break from weight training but plans to return to it.
