REPORTS emerging from Pakistan suggest that former prime minister and opposition leader Benazir Bhutto was shot by a gunman who then blew himself up.
A party adviser said she had been shot twice, once in the neck and once in the chest, as she got into her vehicle.
The attack came as she left an election rally in Rawalpindi today.
It was initially believed she had been injured in the bomb blast, but it later emerged a gunman shot Ms Bhutto before setting off a bomb.
She underwent surgery but died in hospital at about 1.15pm British time.
At least 20 people are believed to have died in the explosion following the gun attack.
