WE all had a lost and found box at school, but what are the strangest things people from the North-East have lost or found when moving house?

Lost items are often random and intriguing, always leaving a bit of a question mark. Where is that other sock, or the lens for those sunglasses?

Home buying company WeBuyAnyHome asked the nation about their knack for leaving things behind, revealing the most common and weirdest items the public have been greeted with when arriving at their new home.

A quarter of respondents said they have forgotten something behind in a move before while another 26 per cent admitted to purposefully ditching their unwanted items on new, unsuspecting residents.

While the East Midlands topped the list as the most forgetful, North-East movers came in third followed by Yorkshire and the Humber.

Amongst common items left behind include messages on walls, old clothing, rotten food, money and 6 per cent of movers in the UK have discovered secret passages or compartments when settling into their new place.

Among the strangest things revealed were children, false teeth, doll heads and a book of voodoo rituals. The most common strange things found by people moving into a new home were exotic pets including iguanas, tropical fish and budgies.

Wedding albums, artificial limbs and Marijuana plants were also found.

The weirdest thing found in North-East homes is wigs, while a 1980's wedding album was found in a Yorkshire home. Although we will never know how that love story ended, it could be worse - residents in the South West found a voodoo book in their new home.

The North-East has been dubbed the least sustainable as 22 per cent of people left clothing behind when moving, the dirtiest as 14 per cent left rotten food and the most secretive as 8 per cent left secret passages or doors.

Meanwhile, 37.5 per cent of plant parents in Yorkshire and the Humber left their plants behind and 25 per cent left clothes.
