ICONIC names including East 17 and Atomic Kitten are set to impress as a 90s concert has been planned for Darlington this summer.

The 'We Love 90s' concert, which will see part of South Park transformed into a pop venue, is set to take place on August 27.

Names including the Westlife/Boyzone combination 'Boyzlife,' Honeyz, East 17, Atomic Kitten and a Robbie Williams tribute will descend to the pop-up venue.

Originally planned to take place in May 2020, the event was postponed by organisers until this year due to ongoing Covid restrictions on large events.

But confirming a new date had been set, they said: "The main stage will be transformed into a colossal palace of production, complete with SFX/ Laser Show/LED Walls.

"Featuring the amazing BOYZLIFE! The Westlife/Boyzone fusion have been lighting up stages across the UK and are now ready to make their Darlington debut.

"Joining them will be Atomic Kitten making us ‘Whole Again’, Honeyz performing their hit single ‘Finally Found’, and East 17 to remind us that everything is going to be ‘Alright’.

"There will also be a special performance from the very best Robbie Williams tribute act."

On social media, the event has attracted a huge response with more than 5,000 people already responding to an invite.

In line with the Government's roadmap out of national lockdown restrictions, it is thought that by the time the event is set to take place rules will have been relaxed.

By August, provided the roadmap remains on track, the Government has said it will likely be in a position to remove all legal limits on social contact.

Darlington Borough Council is aware of plans for the event in South Park later this year.
