MORE than 150 further cases of Covid-19 have been reported in the North-East and North Yorkshire.

But total number of reported cases was reduced today, after more than 8,000 cases were removed from data tables.

These included 313 cases in the North-East and 76 cases in North Yorkshire.

The Government’s Coronavirus dashboard said it was due to a change in how cases are reported.

A note on today’s data said: “Cases that have been identified through a positive rapid lateral flow test will be removed for people who took Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) tests within 3 days that were all negative.

“Cases of this type that were previously reported were removed from the cumulative total, reducing the total by 8,010. Newly reported numbers of cases for the UK and England were unaffected by the removal of these. Historical published date totals have not been changed.

“Newly reported cases at regional and local authority level within England are calculated as the daily change in the total number of cases. This means that for 9 April 2021, these show significantly lower numbers or zero, and should not be considered as the actual number of new cases reported on that date.”

In the North-East, there were 143 new cases while 313 historical cases were removed from the data.

In North Yorkshire there were 16 new cases and 76 cases removed.

The Government said a further 60 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Friday, bringing the UK total to 127,040.

Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies show there have been 150,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

The Government also said that, as of 9am on Friday, there had been a further 3,150 lab-confirmed cases in the UK.

It brings the total to 4,365,461.

One death was reported at a hospital in the region, in Gateshead.
