HARTLEPOOL voters soon have to decide if they want another left-wing Labour MP.

They have had plenty in the past. Peter Mandelson was parachuted into the safe seat to further his political career, then eventually flying away to fame and fortune. His friend up the road at Sedgefield did the same.

Now Labour’s Hartlepool candidate is Paul Williams GP. The arch remainer is putting his political ambitions first.

So what's next for Dr Paul Williams if he fails in his quest for the bright lights of London, courtesy of Hartlepool voters, having relinquished his possible chance to become Crime and Police Commissioner, for the more powerful position representing Hartlepool in Parliament? Or does he revert to his more important role in his fight against this awful pandemic?

After people voted in record numbers in the EU referendum, he thought we should have another go, but this time, called it "A People’s Vote". We would still be in the EU if it was up to him and his Labour comrades. He won't mention Brexit on his campaign trail, but he will do his scaremongering about the NHS.

He won't mention the fact that the Tories have been in power 45 out of 72 years of the NHS. In that time, they have put more money, more doctors and nurses into the NHS than Labour, but that can't stop them being overwhelmed by this unprecedented pandemic.
