THOSE living in Darlington and eligible for the Covid vaccine are being urged to make their appointment as vaccine supplies are expected to be reduced from next week.

Those in cohorts 1 to 9, which is anyone over the age of 50, and 16 to 64 year olds with certain underlying health conditions, can book a slot at Feethams House in the town.

It comes as a top NHS boss last night urged all eligible residents to book their appointments by March 29, before 'slots dry up.'

The warning from NHS national medical director, Professor Stephen Powis followed on from confirmation the NHS is expecting a slowdown in supply throughout April.

In his warning, he urged anyone who is eligible and had not made a booking to make an appointment at a number of mass vaccination, or pharmacy sites across the region.

However, a number of people reported seeing no appointments available at a site near them with some being offered slots as far away as York.

But reminding those eligible that slots are available at the GP-led Feethams House vaccination site in the town centre, Darlington residents were urged to take up the offer.

'You do not have to wait to be invited by the NHS or GP'

Dr Amanda Riley, Clinical Director of the Darlington Primary Care Network Chief Executive Officer at Primary Healthcare Darlington, said: “Everyone who is eligible for the Covid-19 vaccine can now book an appointment – you do not have to wait to be invited by the NHS or your GP.

“We urge all Darlington residents who are eligible to not delay in booking an appointment for your first jab.

"The Covid-19 vaccine is the best way out of the pandemic, so it is essential that you take the opportunity to have the jab whilst appointments are available.

“If not enough people take up the offer of the vaccine, we will no longer be on schedule to enjoy large outdoor events, pubs or socialising this summer.

“The earlier you have your first jab, the earlier you will have your second and get back to a more normal way of life.”
