THE County Durham group behind the opening of an impressive rooftop bar are set to open another one in the region - with this over three levels.

The Gainford Group, which own hotels and restaurants including Newcastle's Vermont Hotel and soon-to-be open ABOVE Newcastle, have unveiled plans for another bar.

The Chester-le-Street based firm are set to renovate a derelict patch of land in Newcastle City Centre into a three tier outdoor venue named The Crescendo.

Early images show the impressive venue split over three-tiers, which the Gainford Group say will open in June.

A statement posted on the Gainford Group's website from director, Imran Khaliq said they believe the venue will prove "really popular" as it joins the group's portfolio.

He said: “It’s like a hidden oasis in the city, on a par with the likes of Above, and has such beautiful buildings around it, so I think it’s going to be really popular."

In the statement, Mr Khaliq says the bar will have a booking system available within weeks, but the bar won't open until June 21.

Mr Khaliq added: “We bought the hotel in 2012 and this scrap of a land has just been derelict since then.

"But we’ve had the time in lockdown to turn it into a rooftop bar for Livello and a separate venue in its own right basically. We’ve had the time to get it ready for everyone to see."

Mr Khaliq previously unveiled the ABOVE Newcastle bar, situated on the roof of the iconic Vermont Hotel, saying that too will open on June 21.

Hotel bosses previously said the bar will be "unlike anything in the UK," once it welcomes the first guests.

Currently, the Prime Minister Boris Johnson's roadmap says that indoor pubs, restaurants and cafes will be allowed to reopen on the June date provided the Covid-19 pandemic is under control.
