A DJ and football club match day announcer will go on trial next year charged with child sex offences.

Mark Page appeared at Teesside Crown Court this morning in relation to the four offences, including sexual activity with a child and facilitating child sexual exploitation.

The 62-year-old former Radio 1 DJ and Middlesbrough FC match day announcer 'vigorously' denies the allegations, which date back to 2016.

He was not asked to enter a plea to any of the charges during the short hearing.

The Recorder of Middlesbrough Judge Paul Watson QC adjourned the case until February 28 next year when it has been listed for a seven-day trial.

Page set up and run forces station radio Garrison FM, which had a base at Catterick, in 2001 and worked as a presenter until 2013.

The charges include two of attempt to cause or incite a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity and a further two of arrange or facilitate the sexual exploitation of a child aged 13 - 17 years - one in connection with the Philippines.

Following his appearance at Teesside Magistrates' Court last month, his solicitor Henri Brandman said: "Mr Page vehemently denies the alleged offences and will vigorously defend himself against the charges.

"He has had business, military and charitable interests in the Philippines for a number of years."

Page, of Snowdrop Close, Stockton, was released in conditional bail until his next court appearance.
