AN 80-year-old man was seriously hurt when he was hit by a car as he crossed the road.
At around 3.15pm on Sunday, emergency services received a report that a pedestrian had been crossing the road when he was struck by a red Honda Civic on Forest Hall Road, just south of Great Lime Road, in Newcastle.
Police and emergency services attended the scene and the man was taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Honda, a 43-year-old male, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and last night remained in police custody.
An investigation was launched and Northumbria Police are appealing for any witnesses or motorists with dashcam footage to come forward.
