Six of the region’s most wanted fugitives have been snared by police - in just 15 hours.

Northumbria Police arrested the suspects in a day of action on Wednesday after intelligence officers meticulously gathered information on those ‘Most Wanted’ in North Tyneside and Northumberland.

Working alongside key partners, intelligence officers and the dedicated Harm Reduction team, officers were able to identify where suspects were staying.

And over just 15-hours on Wednesday, six suspects, linked with a range of crimes including burglary, assault and dangerous driving, were arrested, cuffed and brought to custody.

Among those was a 31-year-old man who was charged with seven offences after leading police on a charge chase which included two counts of dangerous driving, possession of drugs and trespass.

A police spokesman said: "This operation was planned a number of weeks ago as we looked to locate and arrest a number of wanted suspects who have been linked with a series of crimes across Northern Area Command.

"A lot of hard work has gone on behind-the-scenes as we carried out intelligence into the suspects, and we are delighted to have brought six wanted people into custody.

"This was a team effort, and we want to deliver a clear message to the communities we serve that police are taking positive action and are committed to tackling all forms of criminality.

"This may well have been a day of activity but we want fugitives in our region to know that we will never stop looking for you.

"You should always be looking over your shoulder and always be expecting a knock on your door – it’s only a matter of time before we find you."
