A VOYEUR with a perverted interest in young teenage girls has admitted taking videos and photographs to satisfy his sexual urges.

Tomasz Chmielewski had a collection of almost 2,000 indecent images stashed on his mobile phone, including ones of a 14-year-old girl sunbathing in a bikini without her knowledge and young women teenagers in Middlesbrough town centre.

The 41-year-old was arrested following a tip-off from the National Crime Agency, Teesside Crown Court heard.

Vicki Lamballe, prosecuting, said Chmielewski admitted the offences even before the forensic analysis of his digital devices revealed his perverted collection.

The court heard how the defendant had downloaded 550 images and 88 videos in category A; 418 pictures and 53 videos in category B; and 791 pictures and 91 videos in category C.

Miss Lamballe said Chmielewski had admitted to amassing his sordid images for longer than a decade before his sexual deviancy came to light.

She said: “He was unusually candid in the police interview making full admissions. He accepted he had sexual interests in 13-15-year-old girls. He accepted he had been accessing the images for a decade.”

The counsel said the teenager who was photographed in her bikini was ‘understandably disgusted’ by the defendant’s behaviour.

Chmielewski, of Lanchester Road, Middlesbrough, pleaded guilty to voyeurism, three charges of possession indecent images of children and a further charge of possession of four prohibited images of children.

Sean Smith, mitigating, urged the judge not to impose an immediate custodial sentence to enable his client to access the specialist treatment he required.

Judge Jonathan Carroll sentenced Chmielewski to 18 months in prison, suspended for two years.

“You were actively seeking out and obtaining indecent images of children to get the attention of the police,” he said.

“You have accepted that you have used your phone to record girls and women in your own area for your own sexual gratification and you accept that you had photographed the 14-year-old girl, which is a gross intrusion into her and her family life.”

Chmielewski was also made subject to a ten-year sexual harm prevention order and to attend a sexual offender treatment programme.
