THIS is the moment two vehicles crashed into a car as it waited at traffic lights – before fleeing the scene without stopping.

Shortly after 11.15pm on Saturday, November 28, police received a report of a collision on Gowland Avenue in Arthur’s Hill, Newcastle.

The driver of a blue BMW 318d reported that he was waiting at a red light at Hampstead Junction when he was hit by two vehicles from behind.

Dash-cam footage from his vehicle showed the grey 4x4 and a red car, possibly a VW Golf, smash into the back of the vehicle at high speed.

Both vehicles then drove away from the scene without stopping and the driver of the BMW contacted police.

Police have now released the footage of the collision in a bid to identify and locate the drivers of the vehicles involved.

PC Rich Chappell, of Northumbria Police, said: “We believe the red hatchback and the 4x4 are either known to each other or had been involved in some kind of dispute.

“They were travelling together at speed and after colliding with the BMW they both made off together in the direction of Newcastle city centre.

“Thankfully the BMW driver was not injured during the collision but this footage is very scary and his vehicle was badly damaged.

“An investigation to identify those involved is now ongoing but anyone who recognises these vehicles, or knows the people involved, is encouraged to give us a call.”

Anyone with information, or who knows the identity of the occupants of the 4x4 or the red hatchback, are asked to contact 101 quoting reference 1128 281120.
