HEALTH Secretary Matt Hancock will lead a Downing Street press conference on Monday afternoon.

Mr Hancock will address the nation in a Downing Street press conference scheduled for 5pm today, February 1.

With the update expected to focus on the Covid-19 vaccine rollout, Mr Hancock will be joined by NHS England’s Professor Stephen Powis and Public Health England’s Dr Susan Hopkins.

He is expected to praise the UK's response to the pandemic after it was announced all older residents in England’s eligible care homes have been offered a Covid-19 vaccine.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said “virtually all” elderly care home residents had received their first coronavirus vaccine or been given an appointment for it.

He told reporters: “That’s very important for getting the spread of the virus down, getting the serious illness and fatalities down.”

Mr Johnson said he was “confident that we have the supplies” to ensure that people would receive their second jab within the Government’s 12-week timetable.

It comes as Downing Street said all eligible care home staff have also been offered a coronavirus vaccine.
