THE wife of a dad of two, who received the devastating news of a terminal cancer diagnosis just weeks ago, is overwhelmed as over 100 runners join her campaign to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer UK.

Terri Horner, 33, from Catterick, initially pledged to raise £250 for Pancreatic Cancer UK after her husband’s shock terminal cancer diagnosis earlier this month, by running at least 28 miles throughout February.

But not only has Mrs Horner already smashed her fundraising target by raising more than £7,000 to date on her JustGiving page, dozens of other people have now joined her effort to run 28 miles and raise money in support of her family.

Mrs Horner said is completely overwhelmed by the response.

She said: “My lovely friend Angela, whose mum died of pancreatic cancer in 2016 at the age of just 66, along with our friends Ange and Balinder, wanted to raise as much money as we could.

“Some of us are not natural joggers but like a challenge.

“We have many supporters joining us in doing the miles too.

“We never imagined so many other people would join in and help us raise this much money for a cause that is now so close to our hearts.”

The appeal raised more than £3,000 in the first 24 hours.

Father of two Simon Horner, 41, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer just three weeks ago.

He has started treatment to alleviate the pain and symptoms of the disease this week.

Mrs Horner said: “Telling our children Layla, aged nine, and Harry, aged five, that their Daddy is very ill is the hardest thing we have ever had to do. The support and love our family have been shown at this time has been amazing. Simon and I are so grateful for all your kindness and support."

Friend Angela Daniel added: "More than half of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer die within three months and only 1 in 3 people can name a symptom of pancreatic cancer. We would like to help change this.

If you want to take up the challenge and run 28 miles throughout February, Mrs Horner has created a running group in the popular Strava running app.

You can join the club using the free version of the app, which will track your progress. Search for the group “28 miles in February” and select the 28 miles with Terri group.
