A WEATHER warning for ice has been issued for the entire region following heavy snowfall earlier today.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for the entire North-East and North Yorkshire region as temperatures are set to fall below zero overnight.

It comes as roads were disrupted and schools were forced to shut following heavy snow in parts of the region including County Durham, Darlington, Teesside and North Yorkshire.

The warning, which is now in place, is set to remain in force until 10am on Friday (January 15).

The Met Office is warning against injuries from slips and falls, and icy patches on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.

What The Met Office has said

A spokesperson said: "A further 1-2 cm of snow is possible in a few places at first, mainly above 200 metres across Scotland, northern and central England, before residual rain, sleet and snow dies out during Thursday evening.

"Ice is then likely to form on some untreated surfaces, with difficult conditions on some roads and pavements by Friday morning."
